UC Ship Funds Program:2011 Request for ProposalsFor ship time to be used during calendar year 2012DEADLINE: Proposals are due Tuesday, 15 NOV 2011. REVIEW: Proposals will be reviewed in NOV-DEC 2011 AWARDS: Awards will be announced by JAN 2011. The UC Ship Funds Program is now soliciting proposals from students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty and staff for ship time aboard research vessels operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Due to funding constraints, most awards this year will be made for ship time aboard Melville and Roger Revelle. Funds for other ships are extremely limited. Revelle cost match funds will be applicable to Melville again this year. Click here for more information. Proposals for work during the periods of availability below are strongly encouraged. Awards pay for ship time and the operation of standard shipboard instrumentation at sea. Other cruise-related costs are expected to be paid by other sources (for instance non-standard instrumentation, shipping, travel, salary, data processing, or sample analysis costs). However, for student cruises the program will consider travel costs to/from foreign ports. Please see the links at left for information regarding eligibility, priority of proposals, and how to apply. Programs of any length (day / week / month) will be considered for this period. R/V Roger Revelle Indian Ocean / west Pacific Eligibility: Scripps, UCSB, UCSC When: March-April 2012 Roger Revelle has availability for add-on days during a transit from Fremantle, Australia to Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Due to foreign clearance deadlines, some kinds of work may be restricted to international waters. R/V Melville south Atlantic transit Eligibility: Scripps, UCSB, UCSC When: April 2012 Melville has availability for add-on days during a transit cruise from Cape Town, South Africa to Valparaiso, Chile. Due to foreign clearance deadlines, some kinds of work may be restricted to international waters. R/V Melville eastern Pacific transit Eligibility: Scripps, UCSB, UCSC When: May 2012 Melville has availability for add-on days during a transit cruise from Valparaiso, Chile to San Diego during May 2012.
