UC Ship Funds Program:

SPECIAL: Request for Proposals

DEADLINE: Proposals are due Friday, 15 MAR 2013.
AWARDS: Awards will be announced by 29 MAR 2013.

Due to cancellation of a planned research cruise, an opportunity aboard R/V Roger Revelle has become available on short notice.

The UC Ship Funds Program makes merit-based awards for ship time aboard research vessels operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UC San Diego). These awards enable students, early-career scientists, faculty and staff to conduct research and instruction at sea.

Proposals are solicited for the following times and areas:

Availability

Up to 28 days at sea will be awarded, either as a single cruise or the sum of multiple shorter cruises.

Ports:
Begin in Taiwan or Guam
End in Guam

Availability:
11 JUNE (if departing Taiwan)
17 JUNE (if departing Guam)
Up to 28 days ship time available

Work Area:
Must be in international waters, or waters of the United States (for example Guam or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands) due to passed deadlines for clearance to work in foreign waters.

Awards pay for ship time and the operation of standard shipboard instrumentation at sea. For student cruises, limited funds are available for cruise-related expenses (for instance non-standard shipboard instrumentation, shipping, travel, data processing, or sample analysis costs). To be considered, these costs should be specifically described and estimated in the proposal.
