From: Tom Hayward
Subject: Cruise plan
The October 1996 Revelle cruise is scheduled for October 10 to November 12;
San Diego to San Diego. The cruise will be 3 Legs:
Leg 1: CalCOFI Tom Hayward Chief Scientist
October 10 to November 2
We plan to arrive at Port San Luis at about
0800 for transfer of personnel by small boat:
We will need to transfer about 30 people
Hopefully this will be completed by mid-day on
November 2.
Leg 2: Smith Ken Smith (Roberta Baldwin) Chief Scientist
November 2 to November 7
The ship should arrive at Port San Luis in the
morning of November 7 for transfer of personnel
by small boat.
Leg 3: Rudnick Dan Rudnick Chief Scientist
Dan Rudnick and his group will board by small
boat at Port San Luis on the morning of November
7 and arrive in San Diego by 1600 on November
12. It may help Ship Scheduling if the arrival
could be on the morning of November 12.
Notes:
1. The transfers at Port San Luis (San Luis Obispo) will be via small boat.
Plan for transfer of personnel and a very small amount of hand carried
equipment only. Public transportation to Port San Luis is poor, so each
scientific party will need to make arrangements.
2. We will probably exchange some personnel by small boat at Dana Point and
perhaps Santa Barbara on Leg 1 (CalCOFI).
3. Revelle is scheduled to depart San Diego at 0800 on October 10. This is a
Thursday, and the preceding Monday - Wednesday will be available for
loading. The ship will be participating in the celebration the preceding
weekend, so only very limited loading (if any) can be done prior to Monday.
4. All equipment will have to be loaded and secured in San Diego prior to
October 10 and nothing very big can come off prior to November 12 in San Diego
Please contact Tom Hayward for overall coordination and technical details
about Leg 1. Ken Smith or his group can provide detailed information about
Leg 2 and Dan Rudnick about Leg 3.
