Zellmer, provide direct addresses if they exist.

g. SCG/Melville - pls. give to P. Lonsdale

2. SHIPBOARD PHONE

There is a phone on the ship in Pascagoula - 601-769-0140. It has an
answering machine.

3. LOCATION - PASCAGOULA

The ship is berthed at the Colle Dock, which is just south of the bridge
that carries US Hwy 90 across the inlet that lies immediately west of the
town of Pascagoula - not to be confused with the bridge on the same highway
about 2 miles farther west, on the eastern edge of the town of Gautier,
that spans the Pascagoula River proper.

4. EMAIL

We intend to have email up and running on the ship. Connection is via
satellite (Inmarsat), similar to the system now in use on R/V Melville. It
should be in service by the time the ship departs Pascagoula. Particular
features of this email link, for those who are not familiar with the
Melville system:

a. Each person will be assigned an individual account when joining the
ship. The address is of the form:

revelle\!xxxxxxxx@sdsioa.ucsd.edu

You get to choose the xxxxxxxx. I suggest first inital and last name, or
something similar. It is limited to 8 characters maximum. The rest of the
address is fixed. NOTE THE VERY IMPORTANT BACKSLASH FOLLOWING revelle AND
ADVISE YOUR CORRESPONDENTS OF THIS. It generally will NOT print in your
outgoing messages from the ship that they receive, so if correspondents
simply "answer" or "reply" to your message to them, the backslash may be
omitted and the message will fail.

b. Certain standard addresses will be in use, i.e., choices of the
xxxxxxxx. These are:

master for the captain
scg for the shipboard computer group
restech for the resident technician.

c. I will use rknox for my address.

d. Email costs money. There is a satellite communications connection and
charge for each transfer (we will probably do one per day), and the cost
rises with volume of words transmitted. A reasonable amount of ordinary
correspondence is OK and won't be charged. But if someone wants to SEND OR
RECEIVE (the ship gets the satellite phone bill for either direction) a
large amount of data, please consult with the shipboard computer group to
get an estimate of what the charges may be, and be prepared to pay later.
