From: cpm@mpl (Christian de Moustier) Subject: NEW HORIZON to make drop off at SCI To: nhorizon@sdsioa.ucsd.edu, larry@mpl (Larry Eastman) Date: Mon, 28 Jul 1997 11:02:36 -0700 (PDT) Cc: duck@nosc.mil, shipsked@sio, restech@sdsioa Mime-Version: 1.0 All: Please note the change of location and time of transfer ashore at San Clemente Island during our upcoming cruise (Jul 30-Aug 14) as described below. Thanks Christian de Moustier --------------------------- Forwarded message: >From duck@nosc.mil Mon Jul 28 09:56 PDT 1997 Message-Id: <3.0.1.32.19970728095650.006b4660@cod.nosc.mil> X-Sender: duck@cod.nosc.mil X-Mailer: Windows Eudora Pro Version 3.0.1 (32) Date: Mon, 28 Jul 1997 09:56:50 -0700 To: cpm@mpl.ucsd.edu, capt@mpl.ucsd.edu, norris@nosc.mil, estabrook@nosc.mil, sigmund@nosc.mil From: Debbie DuckworthSubject: NEW HORIZON to make drop off at SCI Cc: wild@nosc.mil, gauth@nosc.mil Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Length: 1162 Ship's Captain & Chris, Wilson Cove is restricted to personel transfer. Consequently, NOTC pier, located 1.5 miles south of Wilson Cove will be the drop off site. This pier is located just south of the restricted zone outlined on a map of the island. It is roughly at the midpoint on the eastern side of the island. We will need a zodiac/(equivalent) to access the pier. Steve Norris (from NRaD) will be at NOTC pier to meet the passenger from the NEW HORIZON at 1300 hours on August 11th (Monday). Steve will be monitoring channel 6 on marine band radio around this time for us to contact him or notify him of a delay. His call sign is "niceskater .81". Steve can be reached at 553-9209 or 553-1921, however, he will be in transit to the island on the morning of the 11th. Once on the island, the passenger, Johnathan Amson will be taken to the air terminal to wait for the next flight to North Island. If this arrangement is problematic, let me know before 30 July. Otherwise, once the NEW HORIZON deploys, Ron Gauthier, at NRaD-Point Loma, will be available as POC on these matters. His phone: 553-2808 / email: gauth@nosc.mil. Best, Debbie ******************************************** From: cpm@mpl (Christian de Moustier) Subject: Personnel drop off at St Clemente Wilson Cove To: larry@mpl (Larry Eastman), capt@mpl (Thomas Althouse), shipsked@sio Date: Thu, 24 Jul 1997 14:15:19 -0700 (PDT) Cc: cpm@mpl (Christian de Moustier) Mime-Version: 1.0 All: (1) I have just been notified by Bill Wild (NRaD sponsor) that 3/4 into the upcoming Sinkex trip (New Horizon Jul 30- Aug 14) we'll need to transfer Johnathon Amos (EPA) ahsore at Wilson Cove, San Clemente Island, on August 11th before 8 am. Could you please make the following arrangements: - have a zodiac aboard New Horizon - get authorization to put a person ashore at Wilson Cove NRaD is in charge of getting this person a flight off the island. (2) On July 30, I'd like to do a full control vehicle + box core deployment about 1 hour out of the channel in 200-300 m of water depth, and take a core before getting underway toward our station. Can we get Navy clearance to perform such a test? (3) Any word on Navy clearance request to work on station? Thanks for your help. I was not able to decipher your message with what looked like a microsoft file appended, but that's not critical as long as you have assembled a team of mud samplers with which you feel comfortable. We will run 12 hour watches as dicussed. (2) Schedule: The present ship schedule does not allow us enough time to load and check things out at dockside because the scientific party which precedes us offloads on Friday, July 25th. In the best of worlds we might be able to load that same day and do preliminary checks during the weekend, but we would have only one working day (Monday 28th) to check things out. So I have requested an extra day at dockside (Tuesday, July 29th) to make sure that everything is in order before we sail. We will depart 0800H on Wednesday the 30th and return on or before 1600H on August 14th. (3) Box-core: The box-core release mechanism is in place and works well in air (suspended from a hoist). It will be tested in water off the pier tomorrow morning. (4) Area Clearance: Larry Eastman has put in a request with the Navy for clearance to work inside a circle with a radius of 2 nm, centered at 32-45.4N/119-35.7W Cheers, Christian de Moustier *********************************** Date: Mon, 24 Feb 97 14:48:13 PST X-Sender: rose@sio.ucsd.edu Mime-Version: 1.0 To: shipsched-info@ucsd From: shipsked@ucsd (Rose Dufour) Subject: change slips Cc: csmith@soest.hawaii.edu, KLight@mbayaq.org, cpm@mpl.ucsd.edu, gwilkes@navo.navy.mil, jjaffe@ucsd.edu Change Slips POC: Rose Dufour/Elizabeth Rios Scripps Institution of Oceanography La Jolla, CA 92093-021078 TEL: (619) 534-2841 FAX: (619) 822-5811 Internet: shipsked@ucsd.edu WWW: http://sio.ucsd.edu/supp_groups/shipsked/ TO: various DATE: 24 February 1997 SHIP: R/V New Horizon CRUISE DATES: 23 Jul NP9/So.
