Subject: Sproul cruise 16-21 June 97
Mime-Version: 1.0

Bob,
We are able to use either .322 or .225 wire for the CTD operations
on the Internal Waves cruise 16-21 June 97. Our group has the necessary
messengers, Niskin bottle adaptors, and wire adaptors to fit either winch
setup aboard the Sproul.

The CTD operation involves continuous 12 hour sampling at each of
six stations. We require a winch that will be able to operate in this
mode. We used the .322 wire CTD winch last summer without any problems.

We may need to dive on some of the moorings. I will turn in a
dive request notification to Ship's Scheduling. Most of the diving for
this project is performed from small boats launched from the SIO pier.

***	This is a preliminary cruise plan. A more complete version will be
sent in a couple of days as the details are worked out.	***

Objectives:

1. Deploy subsurface moorings at the T500, T350, T120, T70
locations along an East-West transect from the Mission Bay jetty where the
number denotes the deployment depth. These acoustically released moorings
contain ADCPs and temperature loggers.

2. Perform 12 hour continuous CTD samplings at the T500, T350, T120,
T70, T30, and TBN stations.

3. Deploy a subsurface mooring at the T15P site (Pineda thermistor
chain site near the T15 site.

4. Recover the T17, T23, T27 subsurface moorings.

5. Collect continuous underway met data.
