We have completed cruise NAVO 9811, the last NAVO cruise of 1998. We
occupied 173 ctd-rosette stations, took 6 gravity cores, 22 net tows, shot 67
XBT's, ran productivity experiments, launched 3 RAFOS buoys, and moored
a workhorse ADCP. The weather was kinder than expected, allowing us to do
some biological sampling on Cortez bank on the way back to San Diego.
Very good cooperation and effort by the ships crew and the four embarked
science groups, resulted in 100% completion of all tasked stations. We
suffered no equipment losses or damage. Again a "well done", to all involved.

The crew and ship continue to perform at an excellent level, especially appreciated is the expert winch operators. The teamwork between Naval Post Graduate personnel and SIO technicians is resulting in fast and efficient use of ship time and sampling equipment. We have had one equipment failure, the 12khz Knudsen transmitter has failed for the third time since this unit was installed. We expect to embark 7 people from MBARI on the 6th of Nov. to complement work on the last survey line. They will do a variety of net tows and incubation experiments. Our work is ahead of schedule and unfortunately we will return to San Diego earlier than scheduled. Ron Comer MURLINE TOR 031650Z e-mail
