Cruise Larbaja III. August 1998. TENTATIVE.
NARRATIVE
There will be 3 types of works:
1.10 CTD transects from Point Loma, USA to San Miguel, Mexico. Latitudes are:
32° 40.00 '
32° 35.00 '
32° 30.00 '
32° 25.00 '
32° 20.00 '
32° 15.00 '
32° 10.00 '
32° 05.00 '
32° 00.00 '
31° 55.00 '
2.12 samples of vertical distribution in ~50-60 m water depth, 6 off the San Diego Area,
6 off La Salina - Medio Camino areas.
3.One 24-h CTD yo-yoing station. (The CTD yo-yoing could be eliminated or not depending
on the timing.)
CTD transects. There will be short (30 km) and long (35 km) transects. Short transects
will include stations at 1.5, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 km offshore. Long transects will
include the same plus a station at 35 km. Transects will be separated by 5 min..
Larval vertical distribution: 6 daylight samples of larvae will be obtained up to at
~40m water depths (6 depths.).
Schedule. August 1998.
Day Activity
1 8 AM Steam towards La Jolla, position 32° 53' 24"-117° 16' 25"
9 AM larval samples at stations. Perform 2 CTD-samples per station.
1. 32°53'24"-117°16'25"
2. 32°51'16"-117°18'17"
3. 32°48'36"-117°18'50"
4. 32°47'25"-117°18'14"
5. 32°46'12"-117°17'43"
6. 32°42'31"-117°17'12"
5 PM Finish larval samples. Steam towards position 32° 40' 00"-
as shallow as possible.
Start CTD transects. (See below for positions.)
2 5 PM (elapsed 24 h). Continue CTD transects.
3 5 PM (elapsed 48 h). Continue CTD transects.
4 5 AM (elapsed 2 days 12 h). Finish CTD transects in San Miguel East.
5 AM Steam North, position 32°00'30"-116°53'30"(La Salina/Medio Camino).
6 AM Perform larval samples at:
1. 32°00'30"-116°53'30"
2. 32°02'00"-116°54'20"
3. 32°08'40"-116°56'10"
4. 32°09'50"-116°56'20"
5. 32°11'00"-116°56'20"
6. 32°12'00"-116°56'20"
6 PM Finish larval samples. Navigate towards station 32°10'00-116°55'00".
Occupy and start 24 h CTD yo-yoing station. (The CTD yo-yoing could be eliminated
or not depending on the timing.)
5. 8 PM End CTD 24 h station. Steam towards San Diego.
Arrive San Diego before 8 AM(day 6).
