1.	This cruise will have two legs:

	Leg 1 24 June - 30 June, SD - Port Avila, Avila Beach	
		12 scientists + 1 res tech

	Leg 2 30 June - 3 July, Port Avila, Avila Beach to SD
		10 scientists + 1 res tech

2.	Chief Scientist Leg 1 - Clinton Winant

	Chief Scientist Leg 2 - Ed Dever

3.	No port facilities are required at Avila Beach.  CCS personnel
	have arranged and paid for the water taxi service at Avila Beach
	to facilitate transfer of personnel.

4.	Gear will arrive on two 40' flatbed loads @ MarFac on tuesday 23
	June.

MMS Cruise 17   R/V Sproul     24 June - 3 July 1998


Cruise Goals

This is a mooring ops and survey cruise focused on the area between
Port Hueneme and Port San Luis, CA. The plan calls for evening
departure on 24 June. If this is not possible, plan will be
revised. Diving ops may be required in the event of mooring failure.

Sproul Loading List during 23-24 June for MMS Cruise #17
during 25 June - 3 July 1998.  The Sproul is due in on monday morning and
should be available for loading of computers, underway mets, and survey
gear on tuesday 23 June.  The crane loading will take place on tuesday
and wednesday, 23-24 June as required.  We will send the mooring and other
gear requiring crane loading to MarFac on tuesday in two loads of a 40'
flat bed truck.  Offloading in San Diego will take less than one day.

Loading and Prep on tuesday, 23 June
	
	Install and test underway/over-the-side restech ADCP
	Install and test underway met systems
	Set up data acquisition computers and systems in dry and wet labs
		(met, CTD, XBT, ADCP, general computers, micromariner, 	
		printers, cell tel)

Loading and Prep with help from ResTech Group and MarFac Personnel on
tuesday/wednesday 23-24 June

	Load scientific gear on deck
	Hang trawl block in A-frame center, stopper chain in A-frame port side
		(1/2" x 23' chain, CCS to provide)
	Load trash drum onto trawl winch w/ 200-500' of 9/16" 3x19  terminated
		working wire
	Set up deck capstan
	Provide CTD winch and set up with wire/slip rings for Neil Brown CTDs


CCS Personnel

	Install towers, Argos, and lanterns on buoys
	Install top VMCMs to Buoy Argos for satellite data test
	Check out VMCMs, PSensors, TLoggers, kcells
	Tie down deck gear and gear in lab spaces
