Project Summary: The objective of this project is to determine distribution of mass temperature, salt and upper ocean velocities for Central California waters. This will be done by using CTDs, XBTs, and vessel-mounted ADCP. The character of the sediments in the area of Sur Ridge will also be determined by collecting gravity cores. Location of Measurements: A proposed cruise track is attached which shows the location of CTD soundings as well as core locations. XBTs will be launched along the cruise track at positions which are about halfway between CTD stations and where water depth exceeds 200 m. Treatment of Results: Data will be processed and provided to the Naval Oceanographic office. Geological samples will he analyzed by LT. Chris Gabriel, USN, as part of his program of studies at the Naval Postgraduate School.
