To the other questions: 1. We do not have a "trace metal " van or portable lab. 2.The Revelle's chemistry lab will be clean in the sense of household clean or ship inspection clean, but I do not know if that meets your requirements. 3. Revelle has fume hoods but laminar flow class 100 are terms I don't know . I will try to find the answer and advise you. 4. CTD are launched and recovered over the starboard side. There is a hydro boom that extends out, away from the side and the .322 wire from the ctd winch is lead to an overboarding sheave at the outboard boom tip. System works well. 5. Do you need air or surface freight to Honolulu? Please be advised that Revelle has built in refrigerated lab spaces. Also, for your information R/V Revelle currently has on the main deck to port an isotope isolation van. This isotope lab van has a built in refrigerating unit. Please review that ship's plans below . Please advise. http://www.sio.ucsd.edu/supp_groups/shipsked/Revelle/Deckplans.html Regards Bob Wilson Resident Marine Technician Group Shipboard Technical Support Scripps Institution of Oceanography Voice: 858-534-1632 Fax: 858-534-1635

Popp" <popp@akule.soest.hawaii.edu> Subject: Re: STR Cc: sansone@akule.soest.hawaii.edu Elizabeth: Thanks for your phone call and alerting me to the need to modify our 2000 UNOLS form. Since submission and funding of our proposal (OCE 9810640) we have had time to consider the best scientific plan for our research cruise. It would be most beneficial for us scientifically to begin our research in familiar waters off Hawaii and then transect to new environments in the Eastern Tropical North Pacific. In addition, our initial estimate of 12 individual in the scientific party was low as it did not include participation of no-cost collaborators; something suggested by peer reviewers. Our current estimate of 22 is more realistic and may still be low. Consequently, the prospect of using the Revelle from Hawaii to San Diego is most appealing. Lastly, you were correct that we have requested 15 science days plus 21 days of transect for a total of 36 days. Sorry for the confusion on the phone. Thank you again and please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me if you have any questions. Brian Popp Brian N.
