Cruise Plan:

Nov 3 - Nov 4 : Loading

Nov 4 : Preliminary Scientific Meeting on Board at 1600 hrs

Nov 5 : Leave Dock from Callao, Peru

Nov 6 : at 200 nm out along the Nazca Ridge, we will conduct multibeam

patch test and xbt. - Begin multibeam survey along the Nazca

Ridge moving in a southwestward direction.

Nov 8 : Return to selected sites to dredge.

Nov 9 : Continue mapping and sampling along chain working our way to

Salas y Gomez Island, including xbt's once a day.

Dec 13 : Final multibeam patchtest, leave Salas y Gomez area, and

sail to Easter Island.

Dec 14 : Drop anchor near Easter Island at 0800 hrs.

Notes: scientific crew may stay on vessel nights of Nov 3, Nov 4, and

Dec 14. Offloading of dredge samples will be conducted by SIO

Res Tech's at earlist port of convenience and will be shipped

to SIO archive.


Assess the fixity of hotspots in the Pacific region

by conducting a geochronological, geochemical, and

geophysical study of seamounts and volcanic ridges along

unsampled portions of the ESN hotspot trace, from 104o to

78 o W including the Nazca Ridge.
